Liverpool has become quite expensive of late, which is why I moved away from there. Is there any reason why Liverpool in particular? Where are you studying?

If you are willing to travel a little bit, Campbelltown is only 30min by train from Liverpool and significantly cheaper. For example a quick search for your price range showed nothing in Liverpool with the cheapest being $250/week (including surrounding suburbs like Austral and Miller e.t.c.) whereas in Campbelltown I found 2 one bedroom granny flats (small self contained unit usually at the back of a larger home) and a top floor 2 bedroom flat all for $190/week.

Remember in NSW you need to pay 6 weeks rent in advance (4 weeks bond + 2 weeks rent), and generally your own electricity, gas (if available) and water usage, though in some places these can be part of the rent especially in a granny flat.
