I'm pretty sure the threat of a tax audit will get things moving.

You definitely did sign a lease, otherwise they would not have let you move in. If you leave by the end of this semester you may get your money back for next semester if they can fill the room but you will not get your deposit back, if you move out before the agreed time you forfeit it.If you decide to stay you will get your deposit back, but the cost of the damage will be divided among you all and taken from the deposit, you'll get the rest back.
