Student Flat Glasgow

Irma Said:

'Jointly and severally liable' - normal for student flat in the UK?

We Answered:

Yes this happened to me when our flatmate stopped paying rent we were asked to pay their share, it is quite normal. However we requested our landlord pursue their individual guarantor first before asking us to stump up and it paid off in the end! There are always going to be risks when young people move in together for what is usually the first time but it normally works out and in the end you just have to trust that everyone is going to do their bit.

glasgow accomodation?

We Answered:

I pay about £170 a month, but it really depends on how big a flat you are after and what area of Glasgow. City Centre, Merchant City and the West End will more expensive, but if there are a few of you all chipping in then it will work out cheaper. Here is a link with more information - http://www.lettingweb.com/properties/reg… Good luck!

Need a flat to rent in Glasgow please help?

We Answered:

As a student with no guaranteed income beyond your student loan, few landlords are going to be willing to let a flat to you unless you can come up with a guarantor - somebody who will agree to be legally responsible for paying your rent if you can't or don't. It's also very unlikely you'd be able to afford to live on your own on a student budget. Have a look at rental prices in your area: http://www.findaproperty.com

Your best option is to look for a room in a shared student house, or find some flatmates you could look for a place with. If you don't know anybody who you could move in with, the student services department at your university usually keeps a list of landlords who rent rooms to students, and if you look on notice boards at university you'll often find ads from other students looking for a new flatmate.

need some help regarding RENT and BILLS?

We Answered:

Your landlord should be able to tell you how much the council tax will be monthly, as far as your electricity, gas , well that will depend on how much you use. You need to work that one out yourself. If it is a card meter then you should be able to judge what you use weekly, and same with the other. If your partner is employed then his wages will be taken into account if asking for a council tax rebate (as you are a student, you may be considered for one) I would ask at the council tax office where you stand. No harm in asking about a rent rebate either. Contact your local DSS they should be able to tell you more. Good Luck.

Angel Said:

as student can I find a location or a flat in glasgow, scottland?

We Answered:

Yes. Glasgow has several universities so there are lots of student flats out there in various areas of the city. It depends on which university you are going to as to where you need to target, although public transport in Glasgow is very good too and it has an underground system which means you don't have to live in the immediate vicinity of the university.

But now is the time to be looking - you may have to secure a flat over the summer regardless of whether you are there or not because it means you will definitely have somewhere to live come the start of term.

Contact the accommodation office of the university you are going to for lists of flats. Check the newspapers too - often there will be a room going in a shared house and this is a way of keeping your costs down.

Hope that helps!

Best way of commuting from Edinburgh to Glasgow?

We Answered:

You have really answered your own question.

It is a choice between the speed of the train and the cheapness of the coach. There are no other fare reductions as you already hold student railcards. But a couple of other factors for you to consider.

With the tram works in Edinburgh, the western approaches to the city are restricted which adds to the peak problems for the coach in both directions.

The M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh suffers from fogs in autumn and early spring, as well cold snaps in winter. These weather conditions will slow down traffic and can be the catalyst for accidents. (Only a fortnight ago, an accident on the M8 near Kirk o'Shotts brought traffic chaos which led to two football matches being cancelled because teams and supporters were caught up in the melee!)

The only other thought is to put a notice on a students noticeboard seeking a car sharing arrangement. Even if only part way (such as Bathgate to Glasgow), it could save quite a bit.

I wish I could be more positive; sorry.

It is good to read these answers about the Student Flat Glasgow. Now a day it is very hard for the students to find the best flat or apartment in a limited cost. This is good to provide the resources so that they can find the best one according to their budget and requirements.
