Student Room Uk

Matthew Said:

A student attempted suicide at the halls where I live. What to do?

We Answered:

Talking is a good therapy. Try and find out what the problem is then work on reducing the stress in his life that leads to this action. Just try and be his buddy mentor. Here are some websites where you can ask questions to find out how to handle the situation. Or give him these websites to look at.

Do other tenants have to pay for an empty room? (UK)?

We Answered:

There are 2 ways shared houses work....

1) Landlord lets out the house room-by-room
2) Landlord lets out the entire house to a group.

The second is cheaper (by a lot) but means that no matter how many people are in the house, no matter who pays the rent or doesn't, the landlord still wants the same amount of rent off the 'group'.

If you don't pay, you are all liable for the missing rent by law - all of you or any one of you.

So, imagine no one pays the rent - the landlord could take you (and only you) to court to pay it all! It's not likely, but it is possible.

If each person has their own agreement for their own room, this wouldn't apply - but you would pay much more.

Discuss It!
