I know you said you're concerned about taking time off from work, but if you have a surgical abortion (also known as an "in-clinic abortion"), you'll really only be out of work for one day. Usually during an in-clinic abortion procedure, you are anesthetized, so you don't feel anything that is happening. The whole procedure typically only takes about 5 minutes. When you wake up, you'll probably want to lie down in the recovery room at the clinic and rest for about an hour or two before going home. You might want to take it easy for the rest of the day, but you should definitely feel well enough to go to work the next day.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of conservative anti-abortion morons on this website who are probably going to reply to this question and say ludicrous stuff like, "OMG, you murderer, you're killing a baby, you'll regret it for the rest of your life! You'll burn in hell for this! Abortion is murder!" Just try to ignore these nutjobs. Any intelligent person can tell you that abortion is NOT murder. It's simply a safe, legal way to end an unwanted pregnancy. There's nothing wrong with it, so don't listen to these people. Millions of women all across America have abortions each year and NEVER regret their choices. Actually, most women feel relief after having an abortion -- NOT regret.

I'm not Canadian but what you're suggesting is judging children very young (thirteen is a bit young to condemn a child to one career path or determine if they should be allowed to attend a certain school/program). Yet you're then wanting adults in their late teens to be still at school. Yes, it is difficult to choose where your interests lie but this is a problem for many folk and is not going to be solved by adding an extra year at school. People in their twenties and thirties re-train and go back to do other studies so this is a common problem for everyone.

The first two years of university (I'm under the impression that uni in Canada is much like in Scotland where you study for four years) is a chance for people to do a few electives then decide in their third year what they want to pursue.
