Part time students can claim housing benefit, full time cannot unless you are disabled of have children. Your full loan and grant will be counted as income. If you are getitng the full loan, and maintenance grant, I would question why if you are a part time student? Some student courses are classed as full time, even if you do not have over 16 hours per week class time.Besides the above, if you are single, and getting the full loan, the amount of housing benefit you will get will be very small. Probably a couple of quid a week.
If you go to www.entitledto.co.uk your student income would be the full loan and grant, Less £693 allowance for books and travel, and then averaged over 43 weeks to give you your weekly income. Use this figure as other income in the calculation to get an idea of your entitlement.
