Leon Said:

Can someone correct my essay?

We Answered:

It's a pretty good essay. The only problems are:

"will put a big dent"

"leaving school work behind, thereby decreasing"

"Students, if they receive an agreeable pay, may drop..."

Remove the "But then again". You end one paragraph supporting, so you don't need to start another in contrast if you're going to continue supporting.

And switch "pros" with advantages, sounds betters.

Hope that helps :)

My teacher called me a sleeper student in programming class. What does it mean? More details inside.?

We Answered:

The teacher may be suggesting that you have talent that just hasn't come to the surface yet.

It also sounds like he likes to use ambiguous expressions when he speaks to his students. The purpose of this is to mystify the student and to maybe give the student the impression that he, the teacher, is smarter than he really is. Non-envious abilities, my a$$.

If you like computers, stick it out, you'll make it. But if you'd rather be in another field, I hope you will look into that.

I'm so sorry to hear of the student who took his life. Just remember, school alone cannot push someone to such extremes. That person had a lot more going on than just school. We are here for a greater purpose than what is going on today, so if anyone is in that much pain, I would hope they would reach out for help.

Good luck to you

How to fix the American education system.!!!?

We Answered:

Spend at least half as much on education as we do on war.

Make sure that the so-called "gifted" students are challenged instead of expecting them to put up with "teaching to the middle". There is nothing wrong with a "track" system, as long as students aren't forced into a particular track. Students different skills/interests/learning styles and those should be attended to. Not everyone is cut out for college and there should be programs to encourage those who aren't. But we also need to meet the needs of highly-able students, so they don't lose interest and live down to expectations. Make it easier to shorten the high school program for such students - sometimes Senior year is a waste of time.

Do away with "teaching to the test".

Have classes with no more than 15 students.

Stop expecting teachers to do the work of psychologists, social workers, etc., etc. And, while we're at it, let's pay them to be the professionals we're asking them to be.

Make standards for teachers, so we have some of the "best and brightest" going into teaching, too.

Get the parents involved, as well as the community. Make sure parents know how important it is to READ TO THEIR CHILDREN and to have books in the house - borrowing books from the library is free!

... for starters!!

Best degree for particular job?

We Answered:

Hi there phoenix5692, I saw your question and just had to respond. I was confused and searching for a way to make money online too, so I could replace the job I was downsized from. I tried a ton of different programs with very little results. I finally landed on an opportunity where I have been able to see results and income very quickly.

I wish I had this information when I first started looking for ways to make an income. WOW! Who knew you could make money even if you are new to a home business, that you can earn while you build your business and skills! It’s actually possible.

God Bless and Good Luck!

Community college transfer??? 10 points?

We Answered:

I entered community college with a 1.75 high school grade point average at the age of 45. What they did was have you take a reading and math test and from your score there placed you into the math and reading course that you qualified for. Mine english 92 and math 84. From there I made it to qualifying university courses of English 102 and Math 117.

I then wanted to go to the University of Washington's School of Business. That was my number ONE goal. So, I met with a school counselor and we mapped out a plan and I took the classes I needed to transfer into that program.

I had to maintain a high grade point average at community college it was a 3.48. I also had to take core classes in business that I needed to keep their scores up to. They were business math, statistics, intro to law, and economics. My GPA for those classes were 3.60. I got my AA degree and wrote a great essay for admittance. I was accepted to apply in the program.

I then had to go to the college itself and write two timed essays. So before I did that I would practice twenty times a day writing essays. I had a hundred topics in a box, and I would draw out a topic and then write a pro and a con for it. I timed myself and in three weeks I got pretty good at essays. I could write a pro and con on everything from abortions to executions.

The day of the test, I was sitting in a room of three hundred students. They gave the instructions and then we were off. I took 15 minutes to frame my position and made a quick outline. I had three arguments and saved my strongest point for last. I did the same with my second essay. I finished it three minutes before time was called. I had a quick look over and I was very happy.

Next to me I saw a student that only wrote a paragraph for each topic. And that was for the entire time. I knew he flunked out, I was sort of astonished that he was so unprepared for it. I saw a friend of mine there from my community college and we talked. We both took different sides of both issues.

In the end we both made it. My essay scores were 3.70 out of 4.0. I might have barely made it in with my graduating GPA of 3.48. But my business GPA and a great essay score got me into the University of Washington School of Business. So, go for it.

Make a plan, update your classes with a counselor and stay focused. Get tutoring if you need it, I had lots of help...GO FOR IT!

Considering a co-op postgraduate program in Canada. How should I prepare?

We Answered:

Hello, first thanks for answering the question on moving to Holland from Canada, and I actually live in Vancouver (yes, i followed your link). In regards to the co-op programs I really don't have a solid answer for you other than I did have several friends completing post graduate studies at one of the universities here, and they still needed outside employment to fund themselves.

Unfortunately your figures for living allowances are very low for Vancouver. It's not clear in your question weather you will be living on campus or off campus. If your planning on living in Vancouver off campus you can expect to be paying anywhere from 800-1000 just on monthly rent. A transportation pass will cost around $100/ month, books are very expensive, in the thousands. I'm not sure as an international student what you will be charged for health care but we pay about $60 per individual/ month. As well, these figures will change if it's a boarding house or studenresidencece. Good luck, sorry I couldn't help you more, and further questions about vancouver, feel free to ask....Lisa
