You really need to be forceful when talking to Student Finance, as they're always so busy they'll just fob you off or tell you that they don't know anything in the hope that you'll leave them alone. Ring them again and ask to speak to a supervisor - take note of everyone's names you speak to and say that you will make formal complaints if you don't get information. As you had it recorded, they can't deny that this is their fault and so you should demand it be fast-tracked.

If you need to you can speak to your uni and your new landlord. This has happened loads of times and they know that it's a risk with students, so you shouldn't be penalised for it. You can postpone paying tuition fees (if you've got a loan for them they will chase sf, and if you pay then they usually don't ask for the payment until Nov), and ask for an extension on paying your rent - if you're in halls this will be easy, and if you're renting privately you have to appeal to their better nature and promise to pay arrears as soon as you can. As soon as you get any confirmation from student finance (ask for everything in writing/email so you have it immediately) you can show them this to prove that you have money on the way. Also your uni should have a hardship fund to help you out if you get desperate, and if you've opened a student bank account you'll have an interest-free overdraft.

You've still got ages to sort it so don't panic, but there's absolutely no reason to think that you simply won't be able to attend uni.
