Not sure about the rules in the UK, but in the USA, you have to have lived away from your parents for a few years and have to be able to prove that during that time you've provided your own support. At my university, they required a student to be over 25 and have lived on their own for at least 3 years to prove that they were independent.

Moving out on your own would likely increase your expenses, so you'd probably gain nothing unless you are going to be in university for several years yet.

It is paid at the start of a new term - October, January and April will be when you get money and the 2835 is split between 3 and you get a third each month (So what ever 2835 divided by 3 is what you get each term).

A maintenance loan you will have to pay back eventually whereas the grant you don't have to but it would be paid in the same way.
