Student Finance Household Income

Dustin Said:

What is the University income assessed threshold?

We Answered:

You would get more if you were income assessed. Why would you non income as you're 22? Don't understand what you're trying to say! If you apply for income assessed and parental income is £30,000 you would get a non-repayable grant of £1,906 plus a student loan. The rates are:
Up to £25,000 Full grant - £2,906
£30,000 £1,906
£34,000 £1,106

More than £50,020 No grant

Scott Said:

I've applied for my student finance, but think I've done it wrong - please help!?!?

We Answered:

Contact them and ask.

You might be able to resubmit your application if you're lucky. But even if not, contacting them is the best way to go to see if someone can help you.

But yes, you should have applied for the means tested finance if you are eligible for a grant (but yes, ticking that box is also applying for more of the loan-you get 72% non-means tested, and the rest is based on income). The student finance forms cover every sort of finance including the grants.

Minnie Said:

i am moving in with my boyfriend and his parents, how do i change my adress?

We Answered:

Go tot he USPS web site and fill out the change of address form there. They also have paper forms you can fill out at the post office. You'll also need to change your address fro any other official records: school, driver's license, credit cards, etc.

Are you still financially dependent on your parents? On his? Or are you on your own? You can probably get a better answer by calling the admissions department of one of your chosen uni's; they deal with these questions every day.

Student Finance Application?

We Answered:

The UK answer is that maintenance grant is income-based (usually parents' income) - unless the family is hard up, you perhaps won't qualify for any. Bursaries are administered by the university and are only compulsory if you are entitled to maximum maintenance grant.

I think you've worked this out so far. Student Finance will be asking your parents to certify their income for the year to 5 April 2009 so as to assess what if any maintenance grant is due, and until this work is completed (and Student Finance are not noted for being over-staffed!) I don't think they comment on the grant.

My recollection is that when my son went to uni I knew my income was way over the maximum for a grant of nil so he only applied for a maintenance loan (I was paying the tuition fees anyway). I still had to send evidence of my income to Student Finance and, long after they'd agreed his loan, he got a letter telling him he couldn't have the maintenance grant that he hadn't applied for!
