There was an article in the last few days about the delays in the system due to volume of applications.
I do not suppose the post office strike in some areas has helped at all.

you have to prove you are permanently estranged from them this is usually over a year. you will have to divert your post as this will most likely be linked to contact. the essential things you need to do are get a letter from a professional outside your family unit proving the estrangement. you need to prove financial Independence through work slips or bank statements indicating only your loan is paid. They may not accept it this year as it has not been long since last contact but next year they should accept you as an independent student. If you do not get accepted you can appeal, if you parents refuse to fill out their financial documents you can also bring up the estrangement to the individual assesment.
