Sounds like one of those "people to people" things. Those "nominations" are pretty much a scam and thousands of those letters are sent out all the time. My exchange students have actually been sent those -- after they've returned home!A much better use of your money would be to take a semester, or preferably a year, abroad with an legitimate exchange student program such as YFU, AFS or Rotary. Rotary is the cheapest, but the others also offer scholarships.
Don't waste your money unless you just want a fun "vacation" experience. It is NOT an exchange experience!
