Benjamin Said:What neighborhoods/zip codes to live in in Austin for UT students?
We Answered:West Campus is where the nightlife is most of the time. Area consists of everything in between Guadalupe and Lamar west of campus. The population consists of predominantly students. Sororities, fraternities, drunk people. Parking is terrible there, unless you have a reserved spot. Biking from West Campus to school can be dangerous due to lack of bike infrastructure.
North Campus has a more diverse mixture between students and families. A lot more chill. Better access to roads and stores. Definitely look into biking to campus if you choose to live there - there are lighted and dedicated bike lanes that run through North Campus. Closer to intramural fields. Better driving and parking conditions. Several shuttles run north-south through the neighborhood.
I'd consider the location of my future area of interest on campus - if I were an engineering student, I'd prefer to live in North Campus since the engineering buildings are on north end of campus. This would reduce my commute and travel time throughout my stay at UT.
If you end up living further away from campus, make sure you are a couple of minutes away from a shuttle that goes to UT.
I've had friends complain about the new apartment complexes such as the Texan due to high noise levels and poor sound insulation. Avoid those.
Dale Said:What is the cheapest way to have a month's lodging in Austin TX?
We Answered:there is a motel on north lamar and it is less than 800 for a month i think it is called in town in and suites im sure there are cheaper ones but these usually have kitchens and stuff since they are for extended stays so you wont have to eat out as much yeah i looked it up and the phone number is 512-719-3993 they are the cheapest place i can think of in a decent area that is on the bus line
Delores Said:SAY UT builds a new dorm to house 1000 students. Will the # of students living in Austin increase by 1000?
We Answered:No. It's likely that they built a new dorm because more students wanted to live on campus than they had room for. So, it'll just take kids who were living in Austin but off-campus, and put them into the dorm.
Claudia Said:Austin, TX housing help needed! Wanting resources for rental housing, not apt, that will allow pets.?
We Answered:Hello - here's a site with rental listings of houses for rent in Austin: http://www.mynewplace.com/search?back=S&…
You can use the map on the right side to find houses in a particular area, and you can contact the owners about renting through that web site.
Hope this helps...good luck!
