I think i should have a standard cut and paste answer ready because this question comes several times a week. You can approach agencies and ask if they have a landlord on their books who will allow DSS. Secondly you can go to the council in your area- they have lists of registered landlords who accept DSS and can often put you in touch with one. They can also arrange for a deposit! You can go online for your local paper and scour the adverts to see if there are private landlords who are willing to accept you.

A landlord need not know you are on benefits because you can choose to keep that as personal information- however he may want employment references or a guarantee of rent.

Housing associations only take applications that the local authority has nominated so make sure you go on the list.
