Please allow me to save you a lot of hard earned money. Just stay in London and take your acting classes there. There is NOTHING different about acting schools in Hollywood than those in the U.K. Taking your classes here will NOT improve your chances of making it in the business. In fact you cannot legally work in the U.S. without a work visa. No studio, or producer here is interested in hiring an acting student. To get an audition you need lots of provable experience, an agent, and connections in the business. You will probably gain more knowledge about acting from schools in the U.K. than in Hollywood. Develop your craft there in the U.K. where you have the support of family and friends. Become famous there before you attempt making it in Hollywood.

First off, I think it's very unlikely that the two of you will be able to afford anything by yourselves. Secondly, usually you pay rent and then your utilities are separate. However, sometimes utilities are included in the price of rent.

If you really want to move out, your total rent should not be more than 30% of your take-home pay which means you'd be able to afford somewhere between $400-500/mo which isn't going to get you anything. You may want to think about finding a few more people to live with or just suck it up and stay with your parents until you make more money.

You need to be VERY careful when renting from Craigslist. Scammers have been using craigslist for awhile now. That $600 listing is a scam, and is probably removed by now. Going rate for a single/bachelor apartment (flat) is about $900 per month for a decent area, and $1200 for a 1BR. Anything less than that, and you'll be in a rather undesirable area. Also, watch out for the "no credit check" scammers. They offer places WAY below market rates, and just take your money.

If you are going to NY Film Academy, start looking for places in Burbank or Studio City.

Public transport is a joke here. Very slow, and distances here are VERY far apart. Better learn to drive on the right side of the road.
