This is a great webiste for that kind of thing, my sister rented a house in Morely for 2 years that she found on here.

If you do end up letting from an agent, make sure it isn't Tomlinsons, those guys are a nightmare and will quite happily let your house fall the pieces around you as long as you are paying them!

The NAEA are the national association of estate agents and the only governing body there is for estate agents.

Go on the NAEA website and it will give you a list of estate agents in a particular area that are registered with them. Atleast that way if something goes wrong you have some larger authority to take it to.

For the benefit of the US answer people, a letting agent is a leasing or rental agent.

I would do a yahoo search within the UK based on your postal code.

I personally wouldn't go with anyone who wasn't Unipol accredited. There are lots of houses on the Unipol webite, where you can search by area/number of rooms etc. I found my landlord on there (private landlord) and he's been great- no deposit, and he even pays our bills!
