I think you would be best to look at suburbs of Boston. Medford, Sommerville, Arlington, Cambridge and the lot. IF you really don't mind driving go to the MBTA web site and look at the different commuter train lines and check those out for a ride into the city. I personanly like Arlington, it is close to Boston, Alewife, on the redline is at one end, most busses can take you there or into Cambridge. The housing is usually pretty nice and there are really no bad parts of town. Good luck!

But mostly it sounds like you are missing out on having a good time at uni because you are worried about your relationship. You need to talk to him about where you're heading. If not, you have to make a choice for yourself, because it doesn't seem like you're happy with it right now, whether you love him or not, you can't miss out on 4 years of happiness because of this relationship. If you want to be together in 4 years, you can be together in 4 years.
