Eva Said:
Howard University in Washington DC?We Answered:
I went to Howard and recently graduated. The university is a closed campus that is very friendly and urban. Howard University Hospital and medical school is located right down the block from the main campus. Most of your friends will be made from the dorms (Towers if you end up there.) Administration (Financial Aid, Bursar, etc.) can be slow and have been known to mess up paper work from time to time, but they straighten it out in due time. The students there get the bad rap of being "uppity" but you will see that's not true... As far as the neighborhood, its relatively safe, but if you are walking past 7th and Georgia, going away from campus towards the Shaw/Howard Metro Station, it can be a little "ghetto," so use your best wits when walking late at night there. There is a shuttle service that takes students from the metro to their dorms all times of the day and night, so that should not be a problem (Plus its in DC... this isn't the equivalent of Kansas you know.) Good luck with your decision, and keep Howard in mind, knowing that its one of the BEST institutions for African-Americans in the nation, hands down... GO BISON!
