Student Housing Los Angeles

Angel Said:

How much would it cost for an eighteen year old student to live in Los Angeles?

We Answered:

Before you make too many moving plans you should investigate just how much the non resident tuition is at California schools. California is broke, and education took a big funding hit. Tuition for every one was raised twice in 2009, and will go up another 32% for 2010. You will roughly pay 2 1/2 times what a California resident (or illegal alien) pays. I hope either you or your parents are very, very well off in you plan to go to school here.

A modest one bedroom apartment goes in the $1100-1200 a month range. Everything you need and use will cost about 50% more than it does in Michigan, and once you graduate you will find it EXTREMELY difficult to find a job. California is right behind Michigan in how high the unemployment rate is. Jobs are nearly non existent.

University of California in Los Angeles?

We Answered:

Yes, UCLA undergraduate housing (which is what I assume you are speaking of) is on-campus, in Los Angeles. Most of it is a bit of a walk to where most of the classes are held, but then, it is a big campus (I remember having to carry my cello up and down those hills to class!).

Need ideas of things to do with a foreign exchange student who just came to Los Angeles. Any suggestions?

We Answered:

It's hard to say because everyone has different interests.
She's Japanese, so she might be interested in going to a music store, checking out DVD's etc.
Here's a list of the top tourist attractions in LA...am sure she'd love to see Sunset Boulevard etc
