Melbourne
Pros – great night life (pubs), bigger city, more metropolitan, better public transportation
Cons – possibly too ‘busy’ and fast paced if you are trying to get away from your “Dublin work life”.

Perth
Pros – easy going, mild four seasons, proximity to beaches, slightly cheaper to rent accommodation, plenty of coffee shops to sit and relax in over the weekend, proximity to Asia (great for future travelling)
Cons – city shuts down early, further away from other Australian cities

I would say if you are looking to slow down and experience a different lifestyle, Perth would be a good option. It is still a city but minus the massive hustle and bustle. Should you still need to venture into the city, it is never too far from surrounding suburbs. I have met many who have visited Perth and everyone of them would say, given the opportunity, would return and make it their second home.

Yes, but if you lived in it before you started to let it out you might be able to reduce your capital gain because it was your principle private residence.

Gains on the sale of principle private residencies (ie the house you live in ) are tax exempt from capital gains tax.

the cheapest way is to look thru the newspaper.. there's always short term lease where u dont have to pay any agent fees or bonds.. the best thing is it is always FULLY FURNISHED! if u dont mind going thru agent, then www.realestate.com.au is a good side for renting as well.. price is listed.. hopefully this helps =D

Just opposite to central station, there is a youth hostel run by YMCA, which provides you cheap and best solution.
And lot of good lodges are available near Egmore / Central area.*

You are pushing it at £100 a week but give colleges and Universities a try. April is a bit early but they sometimes let out rooms in halls of residence.
