York University Student Housing

Everett Said:

I am a student at Bowie State University and I absolutely HAVE to stay on campus but there may not be room?

We Answered:

I would def. see about getting a roomate or living in a sublet in an apart or house.

Does ur school have housing and residence life office/website? check those to see if anyone has placed any ads for housing wanted or available.

Are you getting fina. aid? U can use your rebate check (granted you have leftover money) and use that to pay your bills.

Hound the residence life office :) They might put u on a waiting list and u may be bumped up.

Try craigslist.com, rent.com, etc...

Any advice with regard to University of Leiden Holland?

We Answered:

There are people at the Leiden university International Office that can help you with more info on visa, housing etc. They will help you arrange all that kind of stuff when you apply.
The student housing corp. in Leiden has several properties that are especially meant for foreign students. Really nice buildings, modern, furnished rooms and (studio) apartments, often right in the city centre.
Count on paying €300 / month and up for a room, €500 and up for an apartment.
If you want more info on the masters course itself, or other things, send them an email. The website also offers more info about classes

I have studied in Leiden myself and enjoyed student life there a lot.
As there are so many students living there, there are plenty of pubs, sports facilities, and activities starting with the big 'welcome week' for new students (El Cid week) end of august. Many student fraternities have special membership options for foreign students.
Don't miss the '3rd of october' celebrations when Leiden celebrates kicking out the Spanish (a long, long time ago). It features - amongst many other things - one of the biggest fairs in Holland, parades, markets and the traditional queuing for free herrings & bread.

It is a smaller town, but all major cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht) are 10 to 45 minutes by train away. Leiden has plenty of typical Dutch charm - think old buildings, canals, windmills, but isn't as crowded as a place like Amsterdam.
