You would need to have courses in geology, reservoir engineering, drillling and other specific petroleum related subjects. There are some universities in the US that offer dual degrees. The one I am most familiar with is LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are others.

The site below lists the ABET universities that offer a petroleum engineeing degree. I know some offer a dual degree but I can't besure which one do.

Note: as a matter of interest many oil companies hire chemical engineers and use them as petroleum engineers with a little training.
