Could be a while...they're more likely to offer permanent positions to seasonal help than to hire new people they have to train. If they need help, they won't lay off people....the Winter is not a good time to be looking for a job in retail as you're competing with all the other laid-off seasonal help for jobs that often don't exist.

Business slows down after the holidays....retail often does very little, if any, hiring during that time. You'd stand a better chance in late Spring, closer to Summer because that's when sales usually pick up somewhat.

It honestly depends on each store...if you're on good standings with the company and they need employees, then I'm sure they'd rather keep you on then go through the hassle of hiring and training another person come January. It would not at all be improper to ask when applying if there's a chance this will turn into a regular position.

I don't think you are too late... the big rush begins at Thanksgiving. They hire until they fill all the vacancies. That could be soon or not, depending on how many apply
