David Said:

Can someone help with 91 Plymouth acclaim Water Pump replacement?

We Answered:

I presume it is the 3.0L V-6, which is built by Mitsubishi so please dont hate Chrysler for this one. If you got the 3.3L V-6 the water pump is outside the motor driven by the serpentine belt, in which case the mechanics an idiot. On the Mitsubishi engine the water pump is inside of the timing cover and driven by the timing belt. It is a major pain in the butt to do, but is possible and for a real mechanic not too much of an issue. The only problem is that many times, the job will cost more than the car is worth which would be why no mechanic is willing to do it. figure any where from $1000-$1500 to have it all done and have done right (all new parts and gaskets including timing belt). some pages to check for info on this job:

any one with a Haynes manual and a lot patience can do it, so if your short on money you may just have to ask every friend and family you know if someone can do it for you. Just make sure its the water pump. It will be leaking out from the timing cover, if its leaking from anywhere else it not the water pump (assuming you have a Mitsubishi engine. if it is the Chrysler V-6 it will be leaking from the water pump itself, and takes a whole 30 mins to change, do it your self).
