Go to the counselors at your school and ask if they offer any internships in hospitals. If not, then go around to local hospitals and ask if they have internship positions for students looking to gain experience. Often times they will allow you to shadow the doctors and even participate on occasion.

San Jose State University doesn't have a medical school, so it will be difficult to find research opportunities there. Stanford is close by. They will have the best opportunities for research.
You can always find hospitals to volunteer at. usually, you need to be a college student or have some higher degree to do research though.
