The temporary number has no bearing on the rate of tax, but you might very well be entitled to a refund because of the way tax deductions work. Get in touch with HMRC. If you have a form P45 from the job, the tax office you should write to will be the one mentioned on the form. Otherwise give them the name and address of your ex-employer.

You could do sales work at a fashion store, many of them have flexible working hours since a lot of students do part time work there. Pays around 7 pounds an hour. Print out copys of your CV and pass it to staff at the store itself.
Search websites like Monster and Milkround too for part-time work that might be relevant to what you're studying, that will help your CV later : )
