Which student loan company is better, Discover or Citiassist?

We Answered:

There are two sources for student loans -- the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A college student loan is a sum of money available to full time students, with a minimum level of interest required during the period in which they are registered as full time students. These types of loans rarely cover the entirecost of education, and most applicants refer to other financial aid options in order to meet their needs. In most instances the FAFSA is required for all federal financial aid including federal student loans. Deferment options are available while you are still attending school at least half-time. There are four main federal loan programs.

How to use Student Loan for educational expenses?

We Answered:

You can't get any loan in excess of the schools published COA minus any other financial aid you get (other loans, grants, scholarships, etc). Note: the COA is more than just the cost of tuition books and fees. It includes living expenses, meals, transportation as well.

If the bank sends more to them than you are allowed, they'll probably send it back. If it's not more than you are allowed they usually cut you a check or deposit into your account. Call your school to be sure.

Citi Bank CITIASSIST Loan?

We Answered:

Sounds like the perfect loan provided it doesn't carry a high interest rate and the student can afford to pay it back. Also, paying off early is advisable rather than minimums. I didn't use this particular loan plan though, to answer your question. Before giving a loan, the bank would have to check for things like intent, otherwise, your friend could be charged with bank fraud and leaving the country could be stopped or extradition could be exercised. The bank has to look into potential flight risks.
