If your school doesn't participate in the federal aid programs - then I'd be quite wary of going there. They quite likely aren't appropriately accredited, and there's a danger that your degree won't be recognized by employers and other schools.

Now, there are some exceptions. There are a few schools out there which choose not to participate in the federal aid program due to philosophical or religious regions. Grove City College is an example. There's nothing wrong with them, academically, at all. But they'd usually try to help you out with student aid themselves.

So I am wary of this school you're going to. Be cautious. Do more research.

Speak to someone at your local credit union. They do offer a variety of types of loans, and they often offer good rates. You don't have to become a member of the credit union in order to talk to them. And they're reputable.
