Graduate School Loan
Harvey Said:
What is a stipend when it relates to graduate school loans? We Answered:
i think it's always been there. it may also mean that (part of) your loan has already been applied to something like tuition or books..but it's really just a general term and doesn't mean anything important.
what loan is this? did you get a loan last term or is this the first term?
just curious for myself.. :)

I accepted a federal subsidized loan for graduate school. How do I choose a lender? We Answered:
For the terms and conditions of how you repay the loans, not really. Schools cannot tell you which lenders to you, schools cannot have a "Preferred Lender List", they can only give you a list of lenders that are willing to work with them. The interest rates are set by the Dept of Ed, the only thing that can vary from lender to lender is if the lender charges a "bank fee" for disbursing you funding. The maximum bank fee is currently 1.5%, and that fee is taken out of your loan before it goes to your school, but you are responsible for paying back the full amount. Example: You are awarded $3500 in the federal Subsidized Stafford Loan,-Lender A charges a bank fees of 1.5% so your school will only receive $3447.5 to cover tution
-Lender B charges a 1% bank fee so your school only receives $3465 toward tuition
-Lender C does not charge a bank fee so your school receives the full $3500.
No matter which lender you choose you will still be responsible for paying back the full gross amount borrowed not just the net amount the school received. I hope this helps you out.

What is a good strategy for budgeting undergrad loan payments while attending graduate school? We Answered:
When you begin grad school, as long as you are enrolled at least half-time, the interest on your subsidized loans will stop. The interest on any unsubsidized loans will continue. So, the best way to pay your loans would be to pay as much as you can on your unsubsidized loans. You will also be happy to know that as a grad student you will eligible for up to $8500 per year in subsidized loan so you may not need unsubsidized loans at all while in grad school.
This information is only true if you have federal student loans and not private loans. If you have private loans, the interest will continue to accrue and I would advise you to pay off your private loans with any graduate federal loans you receive in excess of your tuition and fees, accepting federal sub and unsub loans. The rates on the unsub federal student loans will be much less than what you are paying on the private loans.
Good luck.
