There is no such thing as a low interest private student loan. All of them will be the sub-prime variable interest rates that will be twice what you'll get through fafsa.

You can attend many, many, many schools with what you get by borrowing in federal student loans.

You have two options:
1. Perhaps you should look at cheaper schools if your school costs more than what you are being offered. Dependent freshman can borrow up to 5500 a year in federal stafford loans (fixed rate interest) without a cosigner and without a credit check.

2. Your Dad can opt to take out a parent PLUS loan instead of trying to cosign for a private loan. The requirements are MUCH less strict than a private loan so he will prob qualify. This is a loan that HE is responsible for paying, not you. Be sure he knows you will likely need him to do this every year for all your college career if your school is so expensive you can't afford it with just your loans alone. If he is denied the parent PLUS loan you will be able to borrow more than normal in federal Stafford loans to help you better afford that school.
