As a single mother, you will qualify for independent status with the FAFSA form no matter what age you are. There is a box on the FAFSA form in which you can opt out of student loans. However, if you can find a community college which has cosmetology school, you could find the tuition cheaper in addition to them having a scholarship endowment fund. Unfortunately, it might not be the case with private cosmetology schools. Good luck!
