It doesn't hurt to try...but with my experience I was denied. I took out a 10,000 dollars loan, then when I found out the company I signed a contract with said they were going to pay up to 12,000 dollars of student loan for me, I asked my school if I could get another 2,000 dollars. They said no because the amount I am awarded is based on my estimated expenses; however they said if I really needed the money I could try applying at a bank...but I had no credit...so I didn't get the 2,000 loan.

There are many different types of financial aid/loans. Private loan (banks and such) limits will mostly depend on your credit history, but having previous loans will affect your loan amount and interest.

From looking at their amounts, you should be fine. I would talk with your school's financial aid department, or look at their online website.

In the US, FEDERAL student loans have not been reduced, at least not recently. You are still eligible for the same loan amounts (depending on your grade level and dependency) as last year.

Pell Grant money has increased since last year.

What may have changed is your state's financial aid. In my state the grant money has been lowered dramatically and may even be non-existent next year. But this varies from state to state.
