Student Loans Bank

Gerald Said:

What happens to my student loans and bank account if I die?

We Answered:

Student loans though the US government are forgiven when you die. Your estate would not have to repay them. Whatever assets you owned would be distributed according to your state's intestate law. Under most intestate laws, the money would co to your next of kin, likely your parents. If your bank account has a payable on death, or similar clause, it takes precedence and the person named would automatically own the account when you die.
