I'm a teacher and my salary is about 29,300. They pay my insurance, but then I pay retirement, my organization dues, and taxes. So...it's tough to say exactly, but just to give you an idea...I take home about $1700 a month (spread over 12 months). Hope this helps a little.

Unfortunately, if you want to fly, you can't even come close to paying for the academics and flight courses, not to mention room and board and books, with just student loans and part-time jobs at schools like UND and ERAU. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. At best, loans and part-time jobs will only buy about half of it. There are many far more affordable academic and flying programs. Take a look at Big Bend college in Washington. Far cheaper with a great reputation. Nicer place to live for a few years too.

By the way, when it comes to getting jobs, where you learn to fly and where you go to school is the least important consideration as far as employers are concerned. Hours, ratings, experience, personality and who you know is what will get you flying jobs.

Also, when you pick a degree, I suggest choosing something you can fall back on for employment if a flying career stalls, takes a bad turn, doesn't materialize at all, you lose your medical, or you just plain get sick of the aviation rat race. Aeronautical Science, Aeronautical Studies, Professional Aeronautics and the like are all fairly useless degrees outside of flying for a living. I know, I have two of those degrees. Pretty useless if you don't have a flying job.
