Student Loans Wales

Darlene Said:

Student loan for UK student studying abroad?

We Answered:

I could see from HSBC, England the "Professional Studies Loan" they can support you financially up to UK Pounds Sterling 25,000/= and you can check the following website:

http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/loans…

You need to talk to them on your confirmed admission in Canada and all other things that they may demand as per their procedure, to get the loan you need.Best of luck to you!

Dwayne Said:

Where can my daughter get a student loan from?

We Answered:

In Wales you still go through your Local Authority. You need to contact the Authority to where you pay your Council Tax. Phone them up and ask for the Student Support Section; that section will send you an application pack and if you ask, will guide you through the Student Support system. Much easier than applying on-line!

Hope that helps and good luck :)

Tom Said:

when does the next installment of the student loan go in for students in Wales?

We Answered:

Jan 8th

Audrey Said:

How long until my student loan comes through? Status: Approved.?

We Answered:

If it is showing approved, it may be that the SLC are checking your National Insurance Number (this is done for all students). That takes over a week. Have you applied on-line? If so you should have received a Declaration Form to sign and return.

As you are with Student Finance Wales, I would recommend phoning your Local Authority Number and ask them to check the stage your application is at.

Hope that helps : )

Can someone summarise loans for me please?

We Answered:

You need to check with your University about bursaries as some give extra for certain subjects or grades you get. Their web site should give that info or phone them and ask. You do not repay bursaries.

If your household income is below about 18,000 you should also be eligible for a non-repayable maintenance grant of £2906. Have a look at www.direct.gov.uk.

Check that you have applied for the income assessed element of Student Support.

Philip Said:

I can't get student loan for my university fees due to previous study. Does anyone know of any other funding?

We Answered:

It depends on how much you need really, is it for fees, living expenses, materials etc.

Unless you can get a scholarship or help from the university, you are unlikely to get any government loan or grant for uni, however, many banks now offer career development loans. this has a very low interest rate and payments can be deferred until the end of your course. The subject you are taking will need to relevant to a career though so you may not qualify if you are studying something like History or English but most other subjects will do.

The government have also promised for 09-10 to offer free tuition to students who do not take out a student loan. (designed for students staying at home rather than moving in to halls) maybe this would be an option for you?

Alternatively, you can always study part time at most unis while you work to pay your fees or go through to open university, They have their own funding criteria and you may get more assistance from them.

Good Luck

Randall Said:

I´m going to Dublin university in october but live in Wales and can´t get a student loan. What can I do?

We Answered:

Speak to the uni in Dublin that you plan to attend. Start by calling admissions, and asking who you should talk to. They will have some sort of student finance/financial aid office, who will be able to give you guidance. Both UCD and Trinity get a good number of international, specifically UK, students attending, and they will be able to give you some sources of funding that you can investigate.

Other options:

- You can try a bank in Ireland. The Bank of Ireland is the big one over there. Contact them directly.

- Have you tried banks in Wales? I assume you have. If not, contact banks in Wales directly, and speak to them about student loan options.
